Carol

Carol Marsden was a typical 16-year-old girl, attending her last year in high school and obsessed with friends, parties and having a good time. Until she met Robert McCarthy. His tall, handsome good looks swept her off her feet. She began dating him immediately. The two were inseparable. Going on long walks in the woods, having picnics, going to the movies and spending as much time together as they could. Her friends that had been so important to her prior to meeting Robert seemed to fade out of her life, including her best friend, Nancy. Sadly, Carol was oblivious to this. She was too much in love.

Robert and Maggie

I have worked as a cleaning lady in the same nursing home for 40 years. St Edward’s Convalescent Home was built in 1911. Originally known as St Edward’s Hospital. It was one of the most modern hospitals of the time. It has three floors with multiple four bed dormitories on each floor. There are large windows at the end of each hallway, and it is located in a beautiful park at the edge of town. The hospital was built for the tuberculosis and diphtheria epidemics originally, but after these epidemics subsided, it was converted to a nursing home. I have met many interesting people in my time working here. The story of Robert and Maggie stands out in my mind.

Two Paths

This is a story about two girls, born on the same day in 1966, in the same town. They were both born to middle class couples and were both the oldest children. They lived in the same neighborhood and went to all the same schools. Their experiences however, could not have been more different and ironically, they never actually met each other until many years later.
